Betil Dagdelen is a textile artist and designer of furniture, staged sets and architectural elements. She grew up in Izmir, Türkiye and developed her artistic and professional careers in New York City. Betil’s approach to weaving involves a self-directed curriculum of material, color and pattern study influenced by travel and connecting with local and native techniques. Her unique improvisational methods explore the possibilities and limits of woven and sculptural form. Her recent solo exhibit (Off by an Inch, 2024, Cristina Grajales Gallery, NYC) featured a diverse and comprehensive body of work that she has constructed from her disciplined practice. Her work is included in the permanent collections of the Carnegie Museum of Art and the RISD Museum. She splits her time between Abiquiu, New Mexico and New York City.
